Stone Brewing Co. teamed up with not one, but two Chicago brewers for their first collaboration release of 2013. Both Two Brothers and Aleman flew out to the California brewery to brew up a batch of coffee infused beer called Dayman Coffee IPA.
Back in 2012, Greg Koch of Stone Brewing Co. and Jason Ebel of Two Brothers judged a homebrew competition in Chicago dubbed Iron Brew. The Aleman crew won with their submitted coffee infused IPA and the grand prize was a trip out to California to brew the beer for national release at Stone Brewing Co.
Two Brothers recently launched a new division of their brewery that focuses on coffee roasting. One of their unique, lighter blends was carefully roasted to be a prominent flavor and detected in the aroma, but still give way to the hop and malt characteristics known to the IPA style.
From our personal tasting experience with the initial winning batch of Dayman, the coffee was a very notable flavor in the beer, and was nicely complimented by the hops and malt sweetness. The beer was extremely balanced and had a great flavor profile.
This collaboration beer is also the first to be released in a larger, 22 oz bottle format sporting new artwork from Stone Brewing Co.
The beer’s release will be in the middle of March and will include a series of meet-the-brewer style events:
March 17, 1-5 PM – Two Brothers Taproom – Warrenville, IL
March 18, 6-8 PM – Hopleaf – Chicago, IL
March 21 – Whole Foods in Lincoln Park – Chicago, IL
